Lightweight rectangular scvtvm. Legio XI C.P.F Spain.

Lightweight shield with 6-6.5mm thick plywood core. Strongly based and influenced from the n15 and n17 Dura Europos scvta, which is reflected in its art, weight, thickness, rim, central and peripheral decoration, handle, inner frame, etc.
Both faces are coated with heavy linen, primed with natural gesso and painted with natural casein paint made by myself with milk. Pigments are of natural and archaeological origin, except blue, with is modern-synthetic.
The painting artwork has been redesigned to achieve a more stylized and beautiful style. Also introduced for the first time are 4 thin brass L-shaped pieces near the corners, which help to enhance the visual impression while reinforcing the shield a bit, as they are riveted through it and the rear frame.
The umbo is based on another specimen of Brigantivm, smaller and lighter and with a softer dome, this reduces the weight of the piece to about half and achieves a shield of only 4.3kg.

Both faces were coated with heavy linen, primed with natural gesso and painted with casein paint made by myself, the pigments are of natural origin, except for the blue, which is modern synthetic. The narrow rim is made with thin goatskin with pretty much narrow stitches. Most of the characteristics of this shield were taken from the magnificent specimen nº15 of Dura Europos, and the rest from fragment nº17, so its characteristics and measurements have archaeological support.
